This fall artist and Red Wedge editor Adam Turl’s “13 Baristas” will be on display at the Brett Wesley Gallery in Las Vegas.

13 Baristas is an evolving series of works about a fictional group of coffee shop workers. Within the installation the paintings take on an additional fictional quality; as if made by art school dropouts who valorize the lives of the working class. By manifesting this fiction within the artspace, Turl creates interactions and feedback between art objects and the present world.
Biography
Adam Turl is an artist and writer currently living in St. Louis, Missouri where he is an MFA candidate at the Sam Fox School of Design and Visual Arts. He was born in upstate New York and grew up in Southern Illinois. His father was a Baptist minister and his mother was a high school teacher. In his early twenties he moved to Chicago where he dropped out of the School of the Art Institute to become a political organizer. In 2009 he returned to art school at Southern Illinois University in Carbondale. After receiving his BFA he moved to St. Louis. He is an editor at Red Wedge Magazine where he writes the “Evicted Art Blog.” He also is a founding member of the November Artist Network. He is currently looking for ways to adapt the ideas of Brechtian Theater to the art space.
